Join EDSO

Are you a current or retired veteran?

The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office is proud to have service members join our ranks. Many of our employees served their country before they served El Dorado County. Many continue to serve in the armed forces!

Many of our military employees found the transition to law enforcement very easy due to the similarities in organization, training, and discipline. Your skillsets are valuable to us. EDSO prioritizes our veterans in several ways. Let's explore some of the reasons our veterans choose EDSO!

Post 9/11  G.I. Bill Incentive

EDSO is one of the few law enforcement agencies participating in the Post 9/11 G.I. benefits program. If you have G.I. Bill funds remaining, we will assist you in receiving these funds while you are in our field training program. Over the typical 6-month training period, you may be eligible to receive $800-$1700 a month in G.I. Bill funds in addition to your pay check. Just one way we support our veterans.

Veterans Affairs

The El Dorado County Veteran Services was established to assist veterans and their families in obtaining entitlements. It is not associated with the V.A. They will help you with obtaining disability compensation, pensions, healthcare enrollments, help with military records, education benefits, and much more. Click here to learn more about the program!

Veteran's Preference

Qualifying veterans of the armed forces of the United States receive a veteran's preference. Once you pass the entrance exam which qualifies you for placement, preference points will be added to your score.

  • Disabled veterans, 10 points

  • Veterans, 5 points

  • Widows or widowers of veterans, and spouses of 10 percent disabled veterans, 10 points

(See Government Code 18978 for details)

A Supportive Community

El Dorado County is a special place. Our community supports our military and law enforcement. Patriotism is on display year round. If you are going to live and work in a community, why not pick one that appreciates and honors the service you provide?

EDSO Veterans Group

We have a built-in veterans group just for EDSO employees! Attend regular meetings with other employees who also serve(d) in the armed forces. Enjoy the comradery of talking about prepared topics of discussion. Need help navigating the benefits available to you? We will help you with them. These meetings are held on-site, off-site, and remotely.

Information

If you are currently in the military, we recommend you submit your application when you have about six months remaining on your enlistment. Keep in mind that some of the pre-employment requirements are in-person. Let us know ahead of time and we will do our best to combine as many tasks into one visit.

FAQ:

  • Our policy requires tattoos not be visible in uniform.

  • A top security clearance does not speed up our background process.

  • If you have your DD214, upload it as an attachment to your application.

Military Mentorship

Transitioning from the military to civilian service can be stressful, but it doesn't have to be. Our recruiters take the extra effort to mentor our veterans through the process. Need help finding an academy, completing the applications, and navigating the orientation process? EDSO is standing by to answer your questions and help you formulate a plan. Having a mentor dispels the mystery of the academy and gets you prepared to succeed.
